Analysis of causes and treatment methods of canine diarrhea in small animal clinic „X“

The aim of this research was to identify most common causes of diarrhea in „X“ small animal clinic and evaluate most frequently used treatment methods of gastrointestinal disease. It was included 30 dogs with clinical signs of diarrhea. Data were collected of their age, sex and breed. The study included anamnesis, clinical examination and special tests such as: blood morphological and biochemical examination, direct stool sample microscopy, coprological examination, and rapid tests. Statistical analysis of the obtained data was performed using „Microsoft Excel 365“ and „IBM SPSS Statistics, 22.0 version“ software. The results of the study showed that the sign of diarrhea is quite common in small animal clinic (30.1%). In most cases diarrhea occurred in dogs under one year of age (46.7%) and males (53.3%). The most common other clinical symptoms were abdominal pain (70%), lethargy (63.3%), vomiting (60%) and anorexia (56.7%). The most common causes of diarrhea were food intolerance (36.7%) and gastroenteritis (26,7%). Symptomatic treatment is usually used for dogs with gastrointestinal diseases, with drugs such as adsorbents (53%), antispasmodics (50%) and proton pump inhibitors (50%)
